Sokoto govt adopts tougher strategy to tackle banditry

The governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has announced a strengthened security strategy aimed at combating banditry and enabling displaced residents to return to their original communities. Aliyu made these remarks during the opening of the eighth regular meeting of the State Executive Council in Sokoto. He stated that the state government has implemented a more aggressive approach to addressing the banditry issue, which he claims is already showing positive results.

"We are witnessing significant progress in our fight against banditry in the state and we will remain committed to making the state safer," Aliyu affirmed. He attributed the increased success to ongoing cooperation with security forces, resulting in more encounters with bandits, the rescue of kidnapped individuals, and the recovery of stolen livestock in various parts of the state.

Specific operations were highlighted in Rabah, Tureta, and Kebbe Local Government Areas, where security personnel engaged bandits, saved victims, and recovered a substantial number of livestock. The governor also announced that the provision of armored vehicles and other operational equipment will further bolster security operations and safeguard rural communities impacted by banditry.

Aliyu pledged that his administration would continue to provide the necessary resources to security agencies for the protection of lives and property. He also called on residents to assist security forces and contribute to restoring enduring peace throughout the state.
