Sindh to seek NCCIA assistance to combat fake news

Karachi - The Sindh government has announced plans to enlist the help of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in the fight against fake news and misleading information. This decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh Information Department, led by Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Senior officials, including Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh and Director General Information Dr. Moiz Pirzada, were also present.

Memon instructed the department to create an efficient system for the ongoing monitoring, verification, and prompt identification of false news on both mainstream and social media channels. He emphasized the need for close collaboration with the NCCIA and other pertinent organizations to take legal action against those responsible for creating or disseminating false information. Memon made it clear that any false or misleading information intended to harm individuals or institutions would not be accepted.

In addition to combating fake news, Memon directed officials to bolster the dissemination of the Sindh government's policies and public welfare initiatives through digital platforms and contemporary media tools. He reiterated that the government's stance was grounded in peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony, and national unity, and called for increased public access to accurate, authentic, and timely information.

Memon stressed that the Information Department should strike a balance between effective monitoring of misinformation and the broader dissemination of verified information and public-interest initiatives as part of a comprehensive media strategy.
