Sanusi, Bayero set for separate royal processions in Kano

Kano will host two distinct royal processions on Sunday, September 27, 2026, with the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, set to lead the Hawan Babban Daki, while the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, will participate in the Hawan Fatahu Yakasai. Sanusi II's procession will start from his palace, Gidan Tunda, traversing Kofar Kwaru and Mandawari, culminating in Galadanci in the evening.

In contrast, Aminu Ado Bayero is anticipated to depart his palace for Mandawari, then proceed to Unguwar Yakasai in the evening for a Qur'anic graduation ceremony. The identical routes for both events - Mandawari and Kofar Kwaru - have sparked interest, as supporters of the two factions may converge in the same locations. Authorities are on high alert to ensure the events transpire peacefully, with no clashes.

The dispute between Emir Sanusi II and Emir Bayero intensified following Sanusi II's reinstallation by the ruling administration, who secured their positions through the New Nigerian Peoples Party. Bayero, allegedly supported by the Federal Government, claims the throne and resides at Nassarawa Palace, while Sanusi II contests this claim.
