Ramaphosa says ANC renewal is gaining momentum in KZN

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the party's efforts to renew support in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are gaining traction following their electoral setbacks in the 2024 elections. Ramaphosa addressed supporters in Umlazi, a town south of Durban, a region that saw a significant drop in ANC voter support during the 2024 elections.

Despite the decline, Ramaphosa expressed confidence in the ANC's ability to rebuild its base, stating that the party has an active following that could translate into increased voter turnout in upcoming local government elections on the 4th of November.

Ramaphosa engaged with residents in KZN, highlighting the positive response his party received and the latent support for the ANC that was previously unacknowledged. He emphasized the overwhelming positive reception, noting that the level of support for the African National Congress is palpable. "Our people are overjoyed to see us and interact with their leaders," he said.

However, Ramaphosa acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in the Molweni area of Durban, where residents are still living in homes damaged by floods in 2022. Among those affected were 28 people who died and 7 who remain missing. Ramaphosa assured the community that efforts to rebuild homes and relocate families are underway, though some delays have been experienced. Despite these setbacks, he reiterated that the promises made will eventually be fulfilled without any doubt.
