Presidents Cup pairings for Saturday morning at Medinah

MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) — Capsules detailing the foursomes matches held on Friday at the Presidents Cup reveal an exciting day of golf. The first-ever match, billed at $205.00 plus GST for a year, featured Canada's Corey Conners and Nick Taylor facing off against the United States' Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. Taylor secured an early lead by sinking a beautiful pitch over a bunker to 4 feet on the par-5 sixth hole, but the Americans tied the match on the 10th, with the only win achieved through par.

Conners closed out the match by holing a wedge from 5 feet for birdie on the 12th hole, leading to an Internationals 1-up victory.

The second match saw Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im defeating American duo Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman, 3 and 2. Bridgeman made his debut by holing a 7-foot birdie putt in the opening hole, but the Internationals took control by winning the next four holes, including the fourth with a par. Matsuyama and Im took a 1-up lead when Conners birdied the 12th hole, and Matsuyama sealed the win with a 20-foot par putt on the 16th hole while Bridgeman missed his par putt.

In the third match, Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee of the International team edged out American pair Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark, 1 up. Fox secured the first lead by making an 18-foot birdie on the sixth hole, followed by a tie on the 12th hole when Clark made a birdie putt. The Internationals retook the lead after Fox birdied from 15 feet on the 15th hole and 20 feet on the par-3 16th hole.

However, Morikawa's missed 5-foot birdie putt on the 17th allowed Morikawa to take a birdie opportunity, ultimately resulting in a 1-up win for the Internationals.

The fourth match featured Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Adam Scott of the International team, who defeated American duo Justin Thomas and Cameron Young, 3 and 2. Scott broke the Presidents Cup record by participating in his 56th match, surpassing Phil Mickelson's previous record. The Australian showcased exceptional green skills by winning three consecutive birdie putts and led the match on the third, fourth, and seventh holes.

Scott's impressive performance culminated with a 30-foot birdie on the ninth hole, securing the win for the Internationals.

The final match concluded the day's events, as Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim of the International team secured a 4 and 3 victory over American players Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. Despite the Internationals never trailing throughout the match, the competition remained closely contested until Si Woo Kim's 25-foot birdie putt on the par-3 ninth hole, giving them a 2-up lead.

While the U.S. team experienced a rough stretch on the 14th hole, ultimately falling 3 down, Schauffele missed a crucial 3-foot par putt that could have turned the tide in their favor.
