'Pipe dream' to reality? Wakefield reach Grand Final

Wakefield Trinity secured their place in the Super League Grand Final on Saturday, defeating treble-chasing Wigan Warriors 33-6 in the play-off semi-final. The club, led by head coach Daryl Powell and transformed under the financial support of kitchen magnate Matt Ellis, had previously been relegated to the Championship. England winger Tom Johnstone, who began his career with Wakefield and returned for their return to the top division this season, expressed his excitement about the club's potential to win the championship.

Despite Wigan's impressive record, including winning 16 consecutive matches, Wakefield demonstrated a remarkable performance, taking full advantage of Adam Keighran's second-half yellow card to secure a 33-point victory. Captain McMeeken, a three-time Grand Final participant, described the achievement as "definitely their best ever performance in Super League."

Coach Powell emphasized that the focus should be on the players and their continued success, stating, "It's about the players and how they're writing different scripts every time we take the field." The winner of the Grand Final will be a first-time Super League champion.
