Perikatan to answer RoS within two weeks as coalition faces possible deregistration

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) anticipates providing a formal response to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) within two weeks in reaction to a show-cause notice that may result in the coalition’s deregistration, according to Berita Harian. PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan disclosed that the coalition is nearing completion of a thorough response and ongoing deliberations to fulfill the 30-day deadline set by the regulator.

He noted that PN’s senior officials had recently requested a private meeting with the RoS director-general to discuss and clarify the situation. Takiyuddin made these remarks during an interview at the Bunut Payong Cakna Rakyat Carnival in Kota Bharu. The RoS had suspended all PN activities since September 23 following a show-cause notice issued over a complaint from its associate party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

The regulator has emphasized that the notice does not equate to a decision to deregister PN outright. The controversy revolves around a Bersatu complaint about the exclusion of its party from a PN supreme council meeting on July 16 and uncertainties surrounding PN’s role within the coalition. Takiyuddin, who also serves as the Kota Bharu MP, indicated that the outcome depends on the RoS’s reaction to PN’s explanation.

If satisfactory, the coalition may avoid deregistration; otherwise, it could face it. Takiyuddin also expressed skepticism about the timing of the regulatory action, pointing out that the show-cause notice was issued on the same day the Melaka chief minister announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly. He emphasized that the context of this event remains unclear, adding that the decision to deregister PN hinges on the coalition’s ability to satisfy the RoS with their explanation.
