Pérez throws 1-hitter for just 11th MLB complete-game shutout this year as Marlins beat Braves 3-0

Eury Pérez delivered a one-hitter performance, marking his 11th complete-game shutout in the 2024 Major League Baseball season, as the Miami Marlins secured a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.

The 23-year-old right-hander, Pérez (8-11), only allowed a single by Sean Murphy on a first-pitch sinker in the sixth inning. Pérez struck out eight and walked one, tossing 105 pitches for his maiden complete game in 68 starts.

Pérez entered the match with a 0-3 record and a 9.76 ERA in six career starts against the Braves. With this season's tally one shy of last year's total, the MLB has seen a record-low 28 shutouts in 2024, compared to 29 in 2023. Pérez also recorded his 21st complete game of the season.

Joe Mack and Griffin Conine hit home runs for the Marlins, who ended a six-game losing streak against the NL East champion Braves. Miami's win equaled last season's win total and pushes the team to avoid a third consecutive losing season. Mack's seventh-inning homer was his 14th of the season, while Heriberto Hernández contributed an RBI single and Conine added a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning.

A brief moment of silence was observed before the game to commemorate the 10th anniversary of former Marlins pitcher José Fernández's death in a boating accident.
