PD Act invoked against woman for running illegal belt shop in Borabanda

On Saturday, the Borabanda police enforced Preventive Detention (PD) Act orders against Vemula Sarala, a 45-year-old woman from Banjara Nagar, for repeatedly selling liquor illegally through her belt shop. This illegal operation had been running for years, and Sarala was implicated in multiple cases of unauthorized liquor sales.

The PD orders were issued under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, following directives from Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. Authorities have warned the public to cease operating illegal belt shops or selling liquor without proper licenses, threatening to register cases under the Telangana Excise Act and invoking the PD Act for habitual offenders.

Anyone providing shelter or premises for illegal belt shops could also be held responsible. Residents are urged to report illegal liquor sales through Dial 112, with the assurance that informants will remain anonymous.
