‘No leniency to be shown to those disrupting law, order’

LAHORE: Provincial Minister Bilal Yaseen declared that no mercy would be extended to those who disrupt public safety, emphasizing that safeguarding citizens' lives and possessions is the Punjab government's primary concern. This declaration was made during the 60th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, convened at the Punjab Home Department.

The committee, comprising Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Bilal Yaseen, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, and Special Assistant Rana Bilal Ahmed, conducted a thorough examination of the province's law and order conditions. Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, the Punjab Home Secretary, provided an update on the current situation, and the committee decided to establish four Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) and authorized trials for 21 cases in jail.

Khawaja Salman Rafique highlighted the meeting's alignment with the Chief Minister's instructions, lauded the law enforcement agencies' commitment to maintaining order, and cautioned that any extremism propagated on social media would be met with severe consequences. Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani stressed that no action threatening public safety or property would be permitted, and praised the Punjab Home Department's and agencies' contributions to peace.

Rana Bilal Ahmed underscored the utilization of all resources to maintain stability, with law enforcement ensuring unwavering security arrangements. Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi reminded the gathering that Section 144 remains in effect across Punjab until October 5, with a ban on gatherings of five or more people in public spaces, processions, and incitement to join such assemblies.

Carrying or displaying weapons in public areas is also strictly prohibited. Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem has directed intensified surveillance on anti-state elements and expedited the repatriation of unauthorized foreign nationals. Maintaining law and order and protecting citizens' lives, properties, and assets is the utmost priority of Punjab Police.

The IG Punjab instructed all DPOs and senior officers to actively participate in field assessments, enforcing strict adherence to Section 144 and prohibiting individuals from exercising personal authority.
