Nigerian-born Broadcaster, Edoki Named Community Radio Awards Finalist

Nigerian-born Richard Edoki has been named a finalist in the 2026 Community Radio Awards in the UK, receiving accolades for his efforts in community engagement and cross-cultural understanding in Cornwall. Edoki, a volunteer with CHBN Radio, a station based in Cornwall, is lauded for his use of conversation, storytelling, and advocacy to foster trust, confidence, and engagement among diverse local communities.

This recognition comes as the Community Radio Awards marks its 10th anniversary, celebrating the excellence of presenters, volunteers, producers, and stations across the United Kingdom. The 2026 finalists were announced prior to the national awards ceremony on October 24, following the National Community Radio Conference hosted by the UK Community Radio Network.

Edoki's success is also tied to an earlier award he received from the Devon and Cornwall Police Positive Action Team, acknowledging individuals whose lived experiences and authentic voices have inspired positive change within their communities. Edoki's work includes hosting "African Vibe With RichyBongo" on CHBN Radio, a program dedicated to highlighting African culture and heritage to Cornish audiences.

Through his show, Edoki amplifies African music, stories, perspectives, and cultural experiences often underrepresented in mainstream regional media, promoting greater understanding between African communities and the wider Cornish population. Rebecca Steers, Chair of the Community Radio Awards, emphasized that the occasion offers a platform to recognize the individuals and stations that contribute to their communities across the UK.

She expressed pride in celebrating the finalists' dedication, creativity, and passion, highlighting the vital role of community radio in providing a voice to underrepresented groups and individuals. The awards ceremony, set for October 24, will bring together volunteers, presenters, producers, station managers, and supporters to celebrate achievements and mark the tenth anniversary of the awards.
