Veteran entertainer and social commentator, Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy, has shared that he embraced his daughters' choice to be lesbians, prioritizing their happiness over his personal preferences. In an interview with Saturday Beats, Charly Boy addressed the criticism he received on social media regarding his daughters' sexuality.

He explained that his decision was rooted in love and a belief that adult children are not under parental control. The entertainer revealed that his youngest daughter came out years ago, while his eldest did so more recently. Charly Boy expressed that he was initially taken aback, particularly since his youngest had not had children, whereas the older daughter had already established a family.

However, he emphasized that as long as his daughters were independent and not financially dependent on him, he was content. Charly Boy defended his parenting style, stating that he had evolved from an old-fashioned, rigid father to a supportive, open one, especially in his interactions with younger generations. He also discussed his evolving friendship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as a friend and father figure.
