Minecraft Confirms Ice Caves as Next Game Drop, Adds Frozen Zombies, Ice Balls, and More

Mojang has teased Minecraft's next game drop, revealing some of its exciting new features. During Minecraft LIVE, the company hinted at the arrival of Ice Caves, a new underground extension of cold biomes. These caves will be characterized by their glowing ice crystals and diverse environment.

One of the key additions within Ice Caves is a new hostile mob known as the frozen zombie. This mob can apply freezing effects and throw damaging ice balls. The ice balls have a dual purpose, serving as both weapons and crafting ingredients for potions. They can also be found naturally in Ice Caves, where players can defeat frozen zombies to acquire them.

This addition brings an increased environmental variety to cold biomes, making underground exploration even more interesting. While the caves may be beautiful, they are far from safe, as emphasized by Mojang. Players can look forward to discovering these ice caves beneath cold biomes, a rich source for ore, beauty, and unusual dangers, including the frozen zombie variant.

Defeating the frozen zombies is rewarded with ice balls, or players may risk freezing themselves in the environment. Ice crystals in the caves can be placed vertically or horizontally, offering players ample opportunities for decoration and building, and even serving as a light source.

The frozen zombie applies a stacking freezing effect with its melee attacks, potentially freezing players after enough hits. It also throws ice balls, which apply knockback and deal damage. Normal zombies can transform into frozen zombies when exposed to powder snow, opening up possibilities for advanced mob farms. Frozen zombies drop ice balls upon death, which can be used as weapons or crafted into potions, adding a new layer to combat scenarios.
