MG varsity Syndicate in Keralam triples sitting fee to ₹3,000, triggers row

Mahatma Gandhi University’s newly formed Syndicate has significantly increased its sitting fee from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000, sparking controversy among Left-backed employees' organizations. The decision, announced on Friday, has been met with criticism due to the university's financial struggles and administrative backlog. The Syndicate claims the raise is justified by the "nature and extent of the responsibilities entrusted to the members," who dedicate considerable time to attending meetings, reviewing documents, participating in committees, and making crucial decisions.

However, critics argue that the timing of the increase is unjustified, especially as several important files remain pending. The MGUEA, a Left-wing employees' organization, has staged a protest march against the hike, alleging that decisions on critical files have not been made despite multiple Syndicate meetings in a short span.

The situation has further intensified as the All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) also plans to protest in the coming days.
