Man arrested after allegedly hiding 69 rolls of bhang inside rice meant for remandee

A 24-year-old man named Dickens Tito was apprehended after attempting to smuggle 69 rolls of bhang inside rice intended for a remandee at Kitui Police Station, Kenya, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). During a routine inspection, officers noticed the rice parcel and discovered the narcotics and 33 matchsticks concealed within. Tito was promptly taken into custody.

This incident marks one of two separate cases in Kitui County where police intercepted potential drug trafficking attempts. In the second instance, a multi-agency security team stopped a Public Service Vehicle on the Thika–Garissa Highway for a routine luggage check. Inside the vehicle’s rear boot, officers found 13 bales of cannabis sativa tightly wrapped in yellow sealing tape. The driver, identified as Justice Kabila Njanja, was subsequently arrested.

Both suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further investigation and expected arraignment. The seized narcotics will serve as evidence in the ongoing case. The DCI reiterated its commitment to combating narcotics trafficking in the county, asserting that the incidents are part of a broader effort to disrupt drug networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
