Malaysia komited perangi Islamofobia, kebencian dalam talian

Malaysia has pledged its commitment to combat Islamophobia, religious discrimination, and the spread of hate speech, including on social media platforms. Speaking at a high-level meeting of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan emphasized the need for increasing intolerance, xenophobia, and religious discrimination worldwide, including Islamophobia, to not be taken lightly.

He highlighted Malaysia's plan to appoint a special UN envoy to fight Islamophobia, in line with the country's own decision to appoint a special envoy to address the issue. Mohamad also warned about the growing role of digital platforms in spreading hate speech. "We urge technology companies, civil society, and member states to jointly build a responsible digital ecosystem to ensure the digital space remains safe for constructive dialogue, rather than becoming a field that fuels division and isolation," he said.

Malaysia's participation in the Global Forum on Promoting Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue and Tolerance in Combating Hate Speech was also mentioned. The forum was co-organized by Maghribi, the UN Office on the Prevention of Genocide, and UNAOC. The minister stated that Malaysia is ready to work with UNAOC and other member countries to bridge the gap, address narratives of hatred, and build a world that protects diversity as a collective strength.
