LSK maintains targeted court boycott as it presses for judicial reforms

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has continued its targeted boycott of certain judges and judicial officers, emphasizing outstanding commitments regarding judicial accountability and justice administration. According to LSK President Charles Kanjama, the boycott remains active as the organization persists in advocating for the enforcement of resolutions from a strategic meeting held on July 31, 2026 with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Judiciary.

Members of the Society are instructed to avoid appearing before the designated judges and judicial officers until further notice from LSK.

During a media briefing, LSK outlined several unresolved commitments, such as establishing a Joint Committee to oversee agreed actions and publishing judicial performance reports. The Society also advocated for the implementation of an electronic system for lodging and tracking complaints against judicial officers. Other outstanding issues include resolving pending petitions at the JSC, operationalizing Court-Station Integrity Committees, and gaining access to draft Disciplinary Process Regulations.

LSK additionally stressed the necessity of creating a framework concerning judicial independence and institutional accountability. The organization reiterated its dedication to constructive engagement with the JSC and the Judiciary, asserting that the successful implementation of the previously agreed resolutions is crucial to its ongoing efforts to enhance accountability within the justice system. The targeted boycott will persist until LSK provides additional communication on the matter.
