Limpopo’s inaugural Heritage and Food Festival underway in Tzaneen

The inaugural Limpopo Heritage and Food Festival has commenced in Tzaneen, drawing participants from the BaLubedu and VhaTsonga communities in traditional attire. The event seeks to preserve and promote traditional skills, with visitors able to engage in activities like clay-making and preparing traditional dishes. Traditional foods such as greens (merogo), nuts, and legumes are on display, allowing attendees to taste various traditional delicacies.

The festival's spokesperson, Thabiso Sekhula, emphasizes the importance of educating young people about their culture and traditions. At the event, attendees can take part in bidding demonstrations, learn about the meanings behind different traditions, and engage in clay pot making, traditional cooking classes, and traditional attire creation.

Attendees were also entertained by traditional dances and had the opportunity to learn skills such as beadwork, clay-pot making, and preparing traditional meals. The founder of 1000 Limpopo Secrets highlights the festival's goal of preserving, teaching, and passing on traditional knowledge to younger generations.
