Kim Ji-eun gets rifle bronze for S. Korea's 9th shooting medal

NAGOYA — South Korean shooter Kim Ji-eun clinched bronze in the women's 50-meter rifle 3 positions event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Saturday, marking her nation's ninth medal in the sport at the competition. Competing in Toyota, east of Nagoya, Kim achieved a score of 348.4 points. Her Chinese counterpart, Han Jiayu, secured gold with an Asian continental record score of 359 points, narrowly edging out Zhang Liyuan by just 0.2 points.

Kim's bronze medal marked the first time South Korea had won in this specific event since Jeong Mi-ra claimed silver in 2014. The eight-shooter final commenced with shooters firing 10 shots each from the kneeling and prone positions within a 22-minute time limit. Following the initial rounds, the two lowest-ranked participants were eliminated, with subsequent eliminations taking place after single shots until only two shooters remained after 34 shots.

Kim demonstrated her accuracy by scoring 103.3 points in the kneeling series, the second-highest score. She further enhanced her performance by adding another 103 points in the prone series. Ultimately, Kim secured the second overall position in the competition.
