Jaishankar's blunt jab at Pak reporter

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar firmly rebuked a Pakistani journalist who attempted to question India's role in terrorism during a press briefing at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The incident occurred on the sidelines of the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The Pakistani journalist interrupted Jaishankar, asking, "When will your government stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan?" Jaishankar responded sharply, "A terrorist country is asking me that question. Come on." His aide, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, quickly interjected, "You have heard your reply.

You have heard your response, loud and clear." Just a day prior, an Indian journalist confronted Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the UN building, asking, "When will you stop harbouring terrorists?" India has consistently accused Pakistan of providing a safe haven for terrorist groups and has demanded credible action against cross-border terrorism.

The country's military response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, was justified as an act of self-defense. India has also designated the Resistance Front, linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Pakistan has faced scrutiny from the Financial Action Task Force, including being placed on its grey list in 2018 due to concerns over terrorist financing.
