‘I was crying’: Dhruv Jurel reveals his emotional reaction after 20 lakh IPL bid

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, revealed his emotional reaction after his franchise bought him for a base price of ₹20 lakhs in 2022. Speaking to former cricketer Aakash Chopra, Jurel admitted to crying when Rajasthan Royals raised the paddle for him, noting that his relatives always inquired about his potential IPL debut.

No one bid for him when his name was called the first time, causing him to receive numerous calls from home, leading to a state of turmoil in his mind. When Rajasthan Royals raised the paddle for him the second time, Jurel burst into tears, overwhelmed with emotions.

Jurel also shared his awe and admiration for fellow Rajasthan Royals stars like Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, R Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal, whom he viewed as an inspiration. Despite feeling lucky that he didn't play any games that season, Jurel acknowledged that he wasn't ready for the IPL. He was promoted to the third spot in Rajasthan's batting order, replacing Sanju Samson, who was traded to Chennai Super Kings.

Jurel's season was successful, with 515 runs scored at a strike rate of 154.65. He also praised his teenage sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who won the Orange Cap of the season with 776 runs, stating that the 15-year-old's performance was beyond imagination and that he deserved all the praise for his stellar display.
