Green SM starts Amsterdam electric taxi pilot

Green SM, an electric mobility and vehicle-rental company, has initiated a pilot program for its fully electric taxi service in Amsterdam. This marks the Netherlands as its eighth market globally and the second European market following Denmark. The trial began on September 25 and will initially focus on Amsterdam's Centrum, West, and Zuid districts, with the potential to expand to other districts in the future.

The electric taxis being used in the pilot are VinFast models, which ties the taxi operation to the electric-car manufacturer that is part of Vingroup's business ecosystem. Richard Nabil Chahine, Green SM's Europe chief executive, emphasized that the Netherlands is the next step for the company in Europe, with the primary focus on establishing a consistent service foundation rather than merely placing vehicles on the road.

Driver recruitment is a crucial aspect of the Amsterdam pilot, with Green SM offering both employment and vehicle-rental options. Employees can earn a gross base salary of €17 per hour, potentially up to €3,000 a month, along with performance-related payments. Renters can receive a revenue share of up to 85%, with a base share of 75% and a 10% peak-hour reward, subject to conditions.

Green SM is providing introductory discounts to attract passengers during the pilot, offering 50% off each trip, capped at €30 per ride, for up to 10 rides per user. The Amsterdam pilot follows Green SM's European debut in Copenhagen in July, which was also conducted using VinFast vehicles.
