Google combines Material 3 Expressive & Liquid Glass on the iPhone [Gallery]

Google has been gradually integrating its Material 3 Expressive design language with the new Liquid Glass feature into its iOS apps, following the success of last year's launch of Liquid Glass. One of the first instances of this combination can be seen in the Google Photos app, where the floating bottom bar now features a translucent Liquid Glass material instead of a solid background, similar to its Android counterpart.

Users can adjust the translucency level, as demonstrated in the screenshots provided, which showcase both the default setting and a "More clear" option that allows for a clearer view of the content behind the bar. The dark theme also highlights how the default blue accent color integrates with the current tab indicator.

Furthermore, Google has updated the buttons within the top bar of its apps to incorporate the Liquid Glass material, including the traditional bottom bar in Google Health. This update provides a glimpse of the content beneath the navigation element, while the "Ask Coach" floating action button (FAB) receives a frosted treatment.

Despite Google being in the process of phasing out the older Google Material Theme design language with Material 3 on iOS, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Keep are still lagging behind in this transition. Tasks, however, was updated relatively recently, aligning with the new design language. Regarding the inclusion of Dynamic Color, Google has shown no interest in adding this feature to its iOS apps, as the lack of system access to the wallpaper makes it a somewhat pointless feature, similar to its status on Android.
