France working on UN resolution for Strait of Hormuz navigation

France is currently drafting a United Nations Security Council resolution to advocate for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a UN diplomat. The diplomat stressed the importance of respecting this freedom, which is vital for global supply chains particularly for food and energy security. The diplomat spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing discussions.

The proposed resolution would remind all parties of the importance of adhering to the Law of the Sea and backing peaceful efforts to ensure safe passage through the strait. The diplomat also mentioned ongoing Iran-Oman talks regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and the offer by the UN to facilitate fertilizer transit through the strait.
