Fahmi: L. Krishnan shaped Malay cinema’s golden era and national film heritage

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Tan Sri L. Krishnan, a national film icon and recipient of the 2016 Merdeka Award, will forever be remembered as the pioneer who shaped the golden era of the Malay film industry, according to Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. Over the span of six decades in filmmaking, this esteemed icon left an indelible mark on the nation’s creative industry, with a remarkable career that included directing over 30 films.

Moreover, L. Krishnan played a pivotal role in nurturing the talents of numerous artistes, among them the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee. His contributions were instrumental in laying the groundwork for the development of Malaysia’s modern film industry. However, his legacy extends far beyond the accolades he received, as his works and the generation of artistes that emerged from the era he helped cultivate remain an essential part of our national cultural heritage.

Fahmi conveyed these sentiments in a Facebook post yesterday, expressing his deepest condolences to Tan Sri L. Krishnan's family and the nation’s arts and film fraternity upon his passing. L. Krishnan, who lived to the age of 104, departed yesterday in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
