Even unfrozen assets won’t immediately cover Najib’s RM50m house-arrest fine, says son

Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib, the son of former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has clarified that even if his father's frozen assets were released, it would not be enough to immediately cover the RM50 million fine required for Najib to serve the remainder of his house-arrest sentence. Nizar revealed that the family is still working to raise the necessary funds and emphasized that Najib's ability to pay depends on the amount collected through contributions from the public.

He clarified that the stipulated fine must be paid before the house arrest order can be granted. The Peramu Jaya assemblyman spoke at a press conference in Pekan, Pahang, where he defended Umno's fundraising campaign initiated on its own initiative for his father's expenses, noting that Malaysians still care for Najib and are willing to help.

Pekan Umno chief Fakhruddin Ariff reported that the division had already raised more than RM26,000, with contributions coming from various backgrounds, and expressed confidence that the amount would increase over time.
