Election panel backs Form 6 for SIR, says SC upheld its use

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to remove the declaration requirement for applicants using Form 6 for fresh enrolment in areas not undergoing special intensive revision (SIR). This change applies to non-SIR states and union territories, including those scheduled for elections early next year. The EC's decision follows the Supreme Court's affirmation of the SIR process.

The current SIR orders, issued in phases, necessitated the declaration of applicants' or their relatives' electoral roll details from the previous SIR. This requirement was first introduced in the SIR order for Bihar on June 24, 2025. The EC's statement, issued with the approval of the full commission, clarifies that the declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
