Diamondbacks place Corbin Burnes on injured list in midst of wild-card push

Arizona placed pitcher Corbin Burnes on the 15-day injured list on Friday, due to shoulder inflammation. This occurred just a day before he was scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks in their efforts to secure the National League's final wild-card position. Burnes has participated in just three starts this season, following a 15-month recovery from Tommy John surgery.

His current season ERA stands at a disappointing 7.84, with no decisions, eight strikeouts, and four walks in 10 1/3 innings. Arizona is currently evaluating their options for Saturday night, primarily depending on the Diamondbacks' performance in their Friday night game. The Diamondbacks have recalled right-hander Jose Cabrera from Triple-A Reno.

Both Chicago and San Diego have already secured their wild-card spots. With Philadelphia's loss to Tampa Bay, the Diamondbacks now trail by 1 1/2 games for the final wild-card spot, heading into their upcoming match against San Diego. Their magic number for elimination stands at two. Earlier in the season, Arizona had a commanding 6-2 lead following home runs by Nolan Arenado, Lars Nootbar, and Jordan Lawlar.
