Dean Elgar signs off with one last ton as Essex battle in follow-on

On the final day of the Rothesay County Championship, Division One match at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Essex fought back from 331-5 to give themselves a chance of avoiding defeat against Glamorgan. Dean Elgar, who is retiring aged 39, scored 108 runs and captain Tom Westley contributed 65 as the Essex pair added 166 for the second wicket.

Ul Hassan, who took his maiden five-wicket haul, was responsible for the early breakthrough with 5-107, while Sam Cook was the third wicket to fall.
