Cowboys TE's 'vulgar' celebration leads Week 2 fines despite obvious hypocrisy

Jake Ferguson, the tight end for the Dallas Cowboys, received a hefty fine of $13,611 after his touchdown celebration in a recent game against the Washington Commanders. The NFL deemed Ferguson's celebration as an "offensive demonstration" and in "poor taste" due to his act of imitating the act of shotgunning a beer using the football as a prop.

This fine, however, has not gone unnoticed by the league's top sponsors. Bud Light, the NFL's official beer sponsor, has capitalized on the situation by launching a marketing campaign called the "Celly Jar," where they are donating $37,384 to fans. Other players, including Brevyn Spann-Ford and Kyle Juszczyk, were also fined for similar celebrations.

The league has recently shown a stricter stance on such displays, with over half of the 38 plays that resulted in fines during Week 2 being for vulgar acts or obscene gestures. In Week 1, the Cowboys players received a combined fine of $33,409, the highest among all NFL teams. The fines collected go towards supporting the Professional Athletes Foundation and the NFL Foundation, aiming to aid athletes in need and promote their well-being.
