CNN Says It's Banned From Covering Trump's Tennessee Trip: What We Know

The White House has prohibited CNN from accompanying President Donald Trump on Air Force One for a trip to Tennessee scheduled for Saturday, the network reported late Friday. This decision prevents CNN from participating in the White House TV press pool, which is typically used to share footage of the president with news organizations.

The pool had been in operation following a temporary suspension by the administration, but was restored after CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were granted access for 14 days by a federal judge. The networks argue that the ban is a violation of the First Amendment and that the president's administration is attempting to control news coverage based on his personal preferences.

The exclusion leaves the television press pool without live video coverage of Trump during his trip, which is scheduled to include a football game between the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas in Knoxville. CNN's lawyers may need to pursue legal action to challenge the ban, as they claim the network was not given proper due process before being excluded.
