Club Med South Africa: Is the new KZN beach-and-safari resort worth it?

Johannesburg police announced on Saturday the discovery of yet another woman's body, raising the total number of victims in a series of killings under probe to ten. Police began their investigation after the bodies of three women were found in July and August, all within approximately 4.3 miles of each other in the Ekurhuleni area, east of Johannesburg.

The recent discovery of six bodies in Ekurhuleni over ten days in early September had raised suspicions of a serial killer or killers. Two women were arrested and charged with murder in connection with the ninth body, which was discovered on September 17 and involved a victim who had been stabbed and had her throat cut.

However, police have not linked any of the other killings to the two women charged. Lt. Gen. Tommy Mthombeni, the provincial police commissioner, stated that investigators believed the ninth killing was an isolated incident but could not rule out the possibility that some of the other cases were connected. While police have identified similarities in some of the killings, they have not found conclusive evidence linking the same person or people to all the cases.

All nine of the bodies discovered before Saturday were of women in their 20s or 30s, and several were found naked or partially clothed near main roads. The South African Police Service's Investigative Psychology Unit, which specializes in complex or serial violent crimes, is involved in the investigation.

The discovery of the 10th body was made early Saturday, but police have not yet identified the victim. The South African Police Service released a statement confirming the discovery of the body, stating, "Crime scene management and all the necessary role players are currently on the scene." South Africa has high rates of violent crime and violence against women, and the killings in Ekurhuleni have sparked a national outcry over women's safety.
