Chris Parson’s 3 TDs lead Austin Peay past UT Martin 35-12

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Chris Parson played a pivotal role in Austin Peay's 35-12 victory over UT Martin on Saturday. The running back contributed significantly to the win, contributing 254 passing yards and a touchdown, along with 82 rushing yards and two scores. The Governors took control of the game in the second half, scoring 28 unanswered points.

Parson opened the third quarter with an 18-yard touchdown run, followed by Ta’Ron Haile's 18-yard interception return for another touchdown, giving Austin Peay a 21-12 lead. Parson then connected with Marvin Sims for an 8-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 28-12. Sims sealed the win with an 8-yard touchdown run. Parson's passing game was nearly flawless, completing 17 of 21 passes without an interception.

UT Martin, on the other hand, struggled, taking a 2-0 lead with Malik Brown's first-quarter safety. The team was unable to mount a comeback, finishing with 175 passing yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions by Tate Surber. Austin Peay, currently ranked No. 13 in the Stats Perform poll, will take a short break before facing Tennessee State on October 10.
