Centenary Gala: Yoruba Tennis Club Honours Sanwo-Olu, Fashola, Ambode, Others

The Yoruba Tennis Club (YTC) hosted a special event on the weekend to celebrate its centenary and honor its long-standing supporters and pillars. The honored individuals included current and former governors of Lagos State, the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, philanthropist and businessman Chief Kensington Adebutu, and industrialist Chief Razaq Akanni Okoya.

Additionally, the club recognized several members, such as former chairmen, current vice patrons, trustees, serving and retired members, and those who played a significant role in the centenary activities.

At the Centenary Gala/Awards ceremony in Lagos, themed "Regal Elegance: Celebrating a Century of Tradition and Culture," the club's chairman, Chief Olawumi Gasper, emphasized that the centenary celebration was a time for appreciation, gratitude, recognition, and remembrance of the people who had contributed to the club's growth and development. He congratulated the awardees, noting that their contributions, both visible and unnoticed, were integral to the club's story.

Gasper challenged the members to ensure the club emerged stronger, more relevant, and faithful to its founding ideals after the centenary celebration. He urged members to reflect on what they would leave behind for future generations and strive to make the institution "stronger, more relevant, and more faithful to its founding ideals."

Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Ogbeni Oja and Regent-in-Council of Ijebu-Ode, O'lorogun Sonny Folorunsho Kuku, stressed the importance of preserving the club's heritage, values, and tradition of service. He acknowledged the club's centenary achievements and commended the club for organizing a series of activities that celebrated its history and contributions to society. Kuku urged members to uphold the values of service, respect, integrity, and community as the club enters its next century.
