Bloodied de Minaur scores stirring Laver Cup win over in-form Zverev

Despite sustaining a bloodied knee from a daring diving volley, de Minaur was thrilled to contribute to Team World's cause. The Australian player, known for his prowess in team competition, maintained his perfect 100% singles win record against Europe in Laver Cup duels, fighting back from behind to defeat the two-time Grand Slam champion Zverev 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 11-9.

De Minaur remarked on his bloodied right leg, attributing it to his spectacular tumbling volley reminiscent of Boris Becker. He acknowledged it being a tough match, but expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating that he had given his all for Team World. De Minaur's second-straight victory over Zverev, following their win last year in San Francisco, put Team World ahead after Europe's 3-1 overnight lead had vanished.

American Learner Tien had managed to secure a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win over Italy's Flavio Cobolli, changing the course of the second day's matches. However, de Minaur's victory was more surprising, considering Zverev's recent unbeaten streak of nine matches and his recent triumphs in the US Open and Davis Cup. De Minaur, who was in good spirits after his Davis Cup performance in Queensland, never gave up, even when Zverev was serving for the match.

Agassi had encouraged de Minaur to wear Zverev down, but the latter missed a crucial opportunity, serving for the match and a straight-sets win at 5-4 in the second stanza, only to commit two double faults that enabled de Minaur to break and tie the match in a tiebreak. Zverev's final chance came in the match tiebreak, but he played conservatively, giving de Minaur an opportunity to break with a strong down-the-line backhand, ultimately sealing his two-hour win.
