Bangkok floods: All 50 districts declared disaster areas; travel alert issued

Bangkok officials declared a state of disaster across all 50 districts of the city on Saturday due to severe flooding from nearly 300 mm of rain since Thursday. The floodwaters inundated roads, disrupted traffic, and forced some residents to evacuate their homes. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt noted that eastern parts of the city were the most affected, with canals filled to capacity and additional rain expected.

Authorities have been pumping water, preparing shelters, and assisting vulnerable residents. The Thai Meteorological Department warned of continued heavy to very heavy rain in Bangkok through September 27, potentially causing flash floods and waterlogging. Over 84,000 people across 21 provinces in Thailand have been affected by the flooding, with central regions being the worst-hit.

Major roads, including Bangkok's main routes like Vibhavadi Rangsit, have been submerged, causing traffic disruptions and stranded vehicles. The Civil Aviation Authority advised travelers to allow extra time for flights and boat trips due to the adverse weather conditions in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea.
