NAGOYA: In the world of sports events, conveniently carrying a water bottle is a common practice, especially for journalists covering the action for hours on end. However, during the extensive Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, even seemingly mundane items are subject to a rigorous security screening process. Media members are required to disclose the contents of their bottles and, in some cases, must even take a sip of the liquid before being granted entry.

This seemingly minor requirement is a testament to the stringent security measures implemented throughout the Games. Afif Adnan, a Bernama sports journalist covering the Asian Games, expressed that initially, the need to take a sip from the bottle felt somewhat peculiar, but over time, it became clear that it was simply a standard part of the security protocol in place.

Given the sheer number of attendees, including athletes, team officials, media personnel, and spectators, security remains a top priority to ensure the seamless execution of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Beyond the scrutiny of bags and working equipment, even minor everyday items brought into the venues are subjected to close examination to prevent any potential threats.
