(Asiad) Sprinter pulls out of 200m heats due to leg cramps

NAGOYA, Japan – South Korean sprinter Joel Jin Nwamadi withdrew from his 200-meter dash heats at the Asian Games on Saturday due to leg cramps. The 20-year-old pulled up in the preliminary race held at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. Nwamadi had earlier competed in the 100-meter final on Friday night, finishing fourth.

He was then required to take a doping test the following morning before returning for the 200m. Nwamadi's sprint coach suggested that the grueling schedule might have contributed to the cramps, warning that further pushing could have led to a more severe injury. The athlete was undergoing treatment for the leg ailment and was determined to participate in the relay events.
