Anwar wants pondok education elevated, youths exposed to Islamic knowledge

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is advocating for the elevation of pondok education in Malaysia, aiming to expose younger generations to Islamic knowledge. He believes that progress, guided by faith, good character, and a sense of responsibility towards others, will yield the greatest benefits. Anwar draws parallels between the history of the nation and the role pondok schools and pesantren played in preserving faith, safeguarding knowledge, and educating generations to maintain their identity during colonial rule.

He urged the continuation of elevation of pondok education and the closer integration of younger generations with the wealth of Islamic knowledge, emphasizing that progress is only beneficial when guided by faith, good character, and responsibility. Anwar's remarks followed his attendance at the Sebarkan Salam and Pendang Berselawat programme at Pondok Mujamma Ibnu Sunni Al-Talaqqi (Mushtaq) in Pendang, Kedah, where he was impressed by the significant turnout of people attending religious talks, seeking knowledge, and participating in reciting selawat for Prophet Muhammad.

He highlighted the importance of remaining humble before knowledge, appreciating diverse perspectives, and upholding justice and compassion in line with Islamic teachings. Anwar expressed gratitude for the contributions of religious teachers who diligently imparted knowledge despite limited resources, stressing that the message of wisdom and compassion resonated deeply with him.

He concluded by invoking Allah's guidance for Malaysia to become a nation embodying steadfast faith, broad knowledge, noble character, and mercy towards society.
