Alexander Zverev reacts to Carlos Alcaraz calling him the best tennis player in the world right now

Alexander Zverev has had a stellar Grand Slam season in 2026, securing more major titles than both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Zverev claimed his first Roland Garros title and followed it up with wins at the US Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon. Currently ranked second in the world, Alcaraz recently declared Zverev the best men's tennis player in the world ahead of the Laver Cup.

In response to the Spaniard's statement, Zverev expressed his gratitude for the compliment but emphasized that he doesn't view himself as the best player. While Zverev has won the most majors this year, he has not managed to defeat Alcaraz or Sinner in tour-level competitions. Their only meeting resulted in Alcaraz winning in five sets at the Australian Open.

Zverev has lost in each of his five matches against Alcaraz and Sinner this year, including the Wimbledon final. The German has had some near misses in Masters-level competitions, losing semifinals to Sinner at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo, as well as in the finals of Madrid and the Italian Open. In the Masters series, Zverev has failed to advance past the fourth round since the Australian Open.

Outside of Grand Slams, Zverev has faced several setbacks in Masters-level tournaments and below, failing to progress past the fourth round from the Italian Open through to the Cincinnati Open. At ATP 500 level, he has played three tournaments, including the Mexican Open, where he was eliminated early, the Munich Open, and the Halle Open.

Zverev's overall season record stands at 55 wins and 13 losses, with $14,517,376 in prize money earned.
