AI should complement radiologists, says AIIMS-Mangalagiri chief at AP IRIA conference

More than 800 radiologists and imaging professionals gathered at AIIMS-Mangalagiri for the 12th annual State conference of the Andhra Pradesh Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (AP IRIA)-2026, held from September 25 to September 27. During the inauguration on September 26, Ahanthem Santa Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS-Mangalagiri, emphasized the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in radiology.

He stressed that AI should not replace radiologists but act as a supportive companion in clinical decision-making and patient care. Dr. Prudhvinatha Reddy, Additional Professor and Head of the Radio-Diagnosis Department at AIIMS-Mangalagiri, received a gold medal for his academic achievements and contributions to the field. Dr. Reddy advocated for more conferences focusing on young radiologists to facilitate knowledge sharing, professional networking, and updates on the latest advancements in radiology.

The conference, organized by the AP IRIA Vijayawada subchapter and the Department of Radio-Diagnosis at AIIMS-Mangalagiri, included scientific presentations, lectures, panel discussions, and academic talks on various aspects of diagnostic and interventional radiology, AI, and emerging imaging technologies.
