Afrika Mayibuye claims local government is disconnected from people

The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has criticized local government for becoming disconnected from the communities it is supposed to serve. On Saturday, the party unveiled its manifesto in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni. The manifesto prioritizes job creation, water provision, and service delivery as its main objectives. According to LGE 2026 | Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu, jobs, water, and service delivery will be the focal points of the party's campaign for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Speaking at the manifesto launch, Shivambu expressed the party's commitment to creating "people-centered municipalities" in townships, informal settlements, and rural areas that are free from corruption. Shivambu stated, "We also deal with the land question in terms of the role of the municipality in land allocation for residential, religious, agricultural, recreational, and educational purposes.

We also have a substantial component that looks into local economic development, and a chapter that deals with a corrupt-free municipality, as well as a people-centered municipality that will organically run its affairs."
