"A big mistake" - Devastated Franco Colapinto apologises to Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris for Baku F1 crash

Alpine's Franco Colapinto has expressed remorse for his mistake that led to a collision with team-mate Pierre Gasly and McLaren's Lando Norris during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. On lap 36, Colapinto lost control on the inside line into Turn 1 due to cold tyres, colliding with both Gasly and Norris. This error cost the team a significant number of points, as both drivers were in the top 10.

Lando Norris had urged the FIA to impose a race ban, citing the careless driving displayed by Colapinto. Upon learning about the aftermath, Colapinto acknowledged his error and apologized profusely to his team, Gasly, and Norris, stating it was a "big mistake" and that he was "very sad for the team." He emphasized that breaking the unwritten rule of not taking out a team-mate made the incident even more disappointing.

Colapinto expressed his expectation of receiving a penalty from the FIA's race stewards and emphasized that the incident affected both Norris' car and his own.
