Youths want direct cash aid in 2027 budget, says PKR Youth exco

PKR Youth exco member Noor Amelia Zainabila Zaiffri contends that Malaysia's young people desire direct financial support in the 2027 budget, according to feedback gathered from two town halls last year. She clarified that incentives like the full stamp duty exemption for first-time homebuyers are not perceived as direct aid by the younger demographic.

Noor Amelia observed similar demands during the latest episode of the Kena Soal series on the Keluar Sekejap podcast, which focused on the Future Speaks initiative in collaboration with FMT.

Shamellya Norazizi, a Puteri Umno member, concurred that financial aid is necessary for young homebuyers but emphasized the importance of considering the duration of such support. She urged Malaysians to reflect on the sustainability of relying on government assistance. Shamellya also expressed worry about young people falling into debt, citing the prevalence of buy-now-pay-later schemes as a contributing factor.

She cautioned that home ownership should not be the sole priority for Gen Z, given the high deposits required and the availability of alternative housing options such as rent-to-own schemes and credit guarantees.
