‘You can’t silence the truth’: Netanyahu calls Mamdani ‘the antisemitic mayor of New York’ at the UN, as 100 protestors were arrested outside

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced Mayor Zohran Mamdani at a United Nations speech on Thursday, calling him "the antisemitic mayor of New York" and accusing him of endangering Jewish residents with his criticism of Israel's military actions in Gaza. The mayor, a vocal critic of the conflict, has previously threatened to have Netanyahu arrested if he visited New York.

Netanyahu claimed that many Jews no longer feel safe in the city, reflecting his critics' concerns. Mamdani maintains that his criticisms do not equate to antisemitism. The mayor met with U.S. President Donald Trump earlier in the week, who praised him for supporting Israel. Mamdani reiterated his stance on Israel's actions in Gaza, which have resulted in over 73,000 deaths, and accused Netanyahu of spreading false narratives to justify his actions.

In response to Netanyahu's allegations, Mamdani called the Israeli leader the subject of an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Around 100 protestors, including celebrities like Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder, were arrested outside the UN during a demonstration against Netanyahu's appearance.
