Volkswagen recalls over 3 million vehicles over steering risk

Volkswagen has announced a recall of over three million vehicles worldwide due to a potential steering risk, according to the German transport authority KBA. The models affected include the VW Tiguan, Touran, Golf, and Caddy, built between 2013 and 2024, as well as around 700,000 Audi models from 2017 to 2024. Seat and Skoda models may also be included in the recall.

The KBA discovered a corrosion issue during quality control checks that could lead to a bolt fracturing and cause steering failure, though no incidents have been reported so far. Volkswagen has initiated a precautionary recall, and drivers can continue to use their vehicles until they visit a dealership for bolt replacements. A Seat spokesperson confirmed that 224,000 Ateca and Tarraco models built between 2016 and 2026 are being recalled globally for the same issue. The Skoda company has been asked for comment.
