‘Verity’ explores truth and trust, says Dakota Johnson

Verity, a psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel, delves into the complexities of discerning truth from deception, according to actress Dakota Johnson. At the film's UK premiere, Johnson described the movie as thrilling and sexy, explaining that it keeps viewers guessing about the characters' motives and intentions, much like real life.

The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer played by Johnson, who is recruited to complete a series of books for the renowned author Verity Crawford after an accident leaves her unable to write. As Lowen delves deeper into the Crawford family's secluded estate, she uncovers Verity's autobiographical manuscript, blurring the lines between truth and deception.

Johnson expressed her fascination with the film's dark themes, stating that it has only increased her desire to portray villainous roles. Director Michael Showalter, who is also an actor, praised the film's "darkly seductive allure" and the mesmerizing performances of Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. The adaptation, directed by Showalter, maintains a faithful tone to Hoover's novel while adding more erotic elements. Verity is set to debut in theaters on September 30.
