Two Hacked In Mamanso-Teichu Clash

Two individuals are fighting for their lives at the New Abirem Government Hospital after suffering severe machete injuries during a violent altercation between youth from the Akyem Mamanso and Teichu communities in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region. The confrontation took place last Tuesday at the Mamanso Roundabout, allegedly sparked by a dispute over access to a water source utilized for small-scale mining.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victims, thought to be Teichu residents, were ambushed by Mamanso youths following an intense argument over the shared water resource. "The victims were attacked right at the Mamanso Roundabout by some Mamanso youth. It was very bloody," stated an eyewitness. The victims were swiftly transported to the New Abirem Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Hospital officials confirmed that their injuries were deep and life-threatening, yet they were currently stable. This incident has exacerbated the existing tensions between the two neighboring communities, leaving residents apprehensive about potential retaliation. The New Abirem Police have been notified and are actively investigating the matter, vowing to apprehend the responsible parties and hold them accountable under the law.

Local residents and leaders are calling for calm and urging the District Security Council (DISEC) and traditional leaders to intervene promptly and avert further violence.
