Trump will hit several deep-red states in October campaign blitz

President Donald Trump is set to embark on a campaign blitz through several deep-red states ahead of the midterms in October, according to two sources familiar with the plans. The itinerary includes stops in Iowa, Florida, Texas, and Alaska, supplementing his scheduled visit to Oklahoma and a previously announced trip to Alabama.

While Trump has hinted at traveling to help Ken Paxton in Texas and Dan Sullivan in Alaska, the inclusion of Iowa and Florida suggests a broadened focus on solidifying Republican majorities as the party faces growing concerns heading into the midterms. The president is also planning to campaign in traditional battleground states starting October 3, signaling the GOP's efforts to shore up their own territory amidst rising voter discontent over high costs and mass deportations.

These six confirmed states feature highly contested Senate, House, and gubernatorial races, all of which Trump won in 2024 by double digits. Republican National Committee (RNC) spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre praised Trump's campaign efforts, stating they are "barnstorming the country, energizing our base, and supercharging Republican candidates in key races and beyond."

The White House has directed inquiries to the RNC. Vice President JD Vance is also ramping up his campaign travel, with anticipated stops in Ohio to support GOP Senate nominee Jon Husted, who is trailing Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown, according to internal GOP polling. Trump's campaign swing will begin in Oklahoma and Alabama, two states where Democrats have struggled to make headway in statewide elections.

The Alabama event may help bolster support for Republican state Rep. Rhett Marques, who is in a tight race against Democratic Rep. Shomari Figures. In Iowa, GOP Senate nominee Ashley Hinson has publicly distanced herself from Trump over the Iran war, joining a growing number of Iowa Republicans who have voiced their disagreements.
