Trump: US-China ties 'never gotten along better'

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan at the White House for a state dinner, expressing optimism about the strengthening of relations between the two nations, despite their differing political systems. Recalling his own visit to Beijing, Trump noted the warmth of Chinese hospitality and extended the same sentiment for Xi's upcoming visit to Washington.

He greeted President Xi, First Lady Peng, and the Chinese delegation warmly, describing them as "outstanding, amazing people."

During the dinner, Trump highlighted the enduring ties between the American and Chinese people, despite their differing systems of governance. He emphasized that both leaders understood the importance of maintaining strong relations between their countries. "Together, we can continue to build a relationship that promotes prosperity and security for future generations," Trump stated.

As a token of goodwill, Trump presented President Xi with a bald eagle statue, crafted by an American artist in collaboration with himself and First Lady Melania Trump. The approximately three-foot-tall statue, designed to embody the free and soaring spirit of the United States, would be displayed in Beijing as a gift to the Chinese leader.
